Pizza is by far my favorite food. It isn’t even a question for me, if I had to live off of one food for the rest of my life, it would be pizza, hands down. To share my passion for pizza with you all, I’ve put together a roundup of my favorite local pizza places in the North Tahoe/Truckee area.
Located in the village at Squaw Valley, this place is perfect for grabbing lunch or apre after a day on the slopes. Fireside is known for their unique recipes and high-quality ingredients. I recommend starting with the garlic chips and ordering my personal favorite, the smoky BBQ chicken pizza.
Excellent pizza with a view? What more could you want? Whitecaps is located right next to Lake Tahoe in Kings Beach. Whitecaps has an extensive menu of appetizers, salads, sandwiches and hand-crafted pizzas. They also have plenty of outdoor seating, so I highly recommend visiting in the summer months so you can soak in the sun and take in the views of the lake.
Old Town Tap is located in downtown Truckee and is a staple of the downtown restaurant scene. Characterized as a contemporary pizzeria, Old Town Tap creates delicious word fired pizzas (and other tasty items) from locally sourced ingredients. Pro tip: ask for a side of buttermilk aioli. What’s the buttermilk aioli? It’s a house-made creamy green sauce that is perfect for dipping your crust into at the end of the meal.
If you live in Truckee, one of the best ways to “earn” a slice of pizza is to bike the Legacy Trail from the Truckee River Regional Park to Glenshire Pizza Company. This is a fairly easy 5 mile ride (one way) with the exception of the large hill at the end of the trail. In addition to their excellent pizza, Glenshire Pizza Co. also has a nice little selection of draft beer to help you cool off after your ride.
When my husband and I are visiting his dad in Incline Village, our go to for takeout pizza is always Mofos. Mofos is an old-fashioned, family-owned pizza parlor & Italian restaurant that is a locals hot spot. It’s hard to beat their perfect crust and flavorful toppings, but one of the best things about Mofos is the friendly service and atmosphere.
